Canadian Singer TODD KERNS Misses The VELVET REVOLVER Boat
September 8, 2004Canadian vocalist Todd Kerns (ex-AGE OF ELECTRIC) recently spoke to Chart Attack about his audition for VELVET REVOLVER, the new band formed by former members of GUNS N' ROSES and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.
In early 2003, Kerns got a call from an L.A. friend who told him to audition for this new band with ex-GN'R guitarist Slash in it. Others that were approached included Sebastian Bach (SKID ROW),Travis Meeks (DAYS OF THE NEW) and Mike Patton (ex-FAITH NO MORE).
"I knew that Scott [Weiland] was the one they wanted," Kerns said. "But they needed someone to fall back on if he didn’t work out. Obviously, it would be playing into so much of my high school dreams to be fronting the band that you’re listening to in your bedroom, like that 'Rock Star' movie."
Kerns submitted three instrumental songs for what was to become VELVET REVOLVER, but in May of that year, Weiland was finalized as part of the star-studded lineup.
"None of the music appears on the album," he says. "But Ian Thornley got one [song]. It’s a cool record, but I wish Slash played more guitar solos on them." Read more.
